A Mature Female
Beginning Right
The Brood stock is raised for 8 to 10 months in small ponds of about an acre each. The adult prawns are collected and, after a short maturation period, the females are artificially inseminated. A sexually mature female has an orange colored reproductive organs. They are then placed in individual spawning basins where the eggs will hatch into nauplii in about 12 to 14 hours after being laid. The nauplii are then transferred into large vats located in a small climate controlled warehouse and closely monitored.
Nauplii
Zoa
Post-Larvae
They will develop to the zoa stages and continue on thru the post-larvae stages. They are then transferred to outdoor nurseries where they will remain for an average of 15 days. When the post-larvae reach their final stage of development, they are transferred to grow-out ponds (about 8 acres each). This entire process, from collecting the brood-stock to the post-larvae's final transfer, takes 45 to 55 days depending mainly on the weather.
